Well that's gross, trying to curry a favourable impression by sending a girl that embodies all his current fianc茅es. That the Holy Kingdom thinks that would be enough is underestimating our boi and he can take advantage of that. Uniting under religion is always a tricky thing, separation of church and state is the dominant way in our world now for a reason.
Honey trap, perhaps? Anyway, since MC is now alliance with the Empire, he might as well as exterminate these fanatics. Or at least put them in rehab facilities. To cure them from the brain washing effect.
If only it was that easy. The only thing I can think to do is either accept no state religion or have every religion become a state religion, Syndrome style.

Concept of church and state being separated is a pipe dream when majority of the people that hold an official position believe in a certain way church still holds sway over political decisions. So unfortunately religion still fucks the people over.
why is it so rare for stories to have the church/major religion be good guys?
like i get they are an easy target as a villain/antagonist given the long and bloody history of religion to pull from but i think it is better when the religion is good with a few bad apples that get exposed and expunged like that one isekai where the MC has a very cold and calculating personality and exposes a demon that was hiding in the church to revive a demon lord and the church doing everything to help him when they find out
I suspect it's because of the fact that big organised monotheistic faiths have a tendency to become corrupt when you have so much wealth & power concentrated in one organization and because well our own history is littered with examples of religious folks behaving poorly.
Another fact is the target audience and writers cultural roots: most of Japan population, their primary audience, are Buddhist and Shintoists(with the percentage being: Shintoism 48.6% andBuddhism 46.4%), religions that either polytheistic or don't believe in a god in the first place, hence the writer would probably choose a view that they themselves are accustomed to and are familiar with over going after a view that can f*CK then over if made badly. Besides, their religions, while part of their culture, are not that predominant in their day to day lives, in a way that, when met with the religious fervor that is more common outside of Japan, they probably have a negative perspective of the religions that are more active in the ways of spreading their beliefs.
another thing is that it hasn't been a religion in history that was good, due to all organized religion had been about to control and exploit the population. the best example begin the catholic church with it's inquisition.
I don't want to sound rude but... Generalizing something that complex like that is not a good way of viewing things, especially something cultural like religions. In other words:
i get that some people, especially those whom have faith is a complex situation, conflicting the believe in their doctrines and the historic precedent. but if you take an impartial look historically you can see that there isn't a religion (especially organized religion) that had bring good to humanity. there have been individuals that have been good in spite of religion that is true, but that speak more of the character of the person more than the religion it self. in any case i welcome any counter point and healthy discussion :)
Vile & corrupt is a bit of a stretch. Assuming their stated goal of taking down the Demon King isn't just some front, it's completely understandable why they're trying to amass more power.
Not to mention we've also seen how the Human Declaration Treaty can be used like a bludgeon against parties not within it, so I'm not surprised another nation/organization wants to try and break it apart.
Sending someone who matches up with his current fianc茅s is skeevy as fuck though.
That... is kind of a brilliant plan... and deeply unsettling. I have to give the Holy Kingdom credit for their ambitious plan and it remains of the real power plays in medieval and early modern Europe between the ecclesiastical and secular leadership.
WolfLanceMan this series keep delivering a healthy dosage of "Here is some gorgeous art, here is some cute act, here si some child abuse, here is some horrifying murder!" you just end every chapter confused about how to feel.
JONSANGUBARU15/02/25 First time reading this after reading The Ember Knight, never knew there was a prequel of it. Will give feedback after im done reading this, knowing The Ember Knight was quiet decent.
MonadBut she said that the new king was one of the people opposing him go in that stele because after the victory in a big battle they wanted to keep the new balance.
So it seems that this are the type of people that aren't ambitious about eliminating the demons but are happy keeping a balance and living in a certain way. His happy playing king in his big city without caring about the casualties on lower levels as long as a certain balance is kept were humans still survive as a species.
With that kind of mentality it will be weird if he tried to expand and drive demons into a corner.
D_MerkelTomatoes in Italian cuisine date back to the 1600s, when they arrived from America. They got pasta from the Arabs in the 19th century. Italian cooking is not a monolith; they have dishes that do not require tomatoes or pasta. So don't worry for our friends here, they should do fine.
