wow this was, so interesting. I can see why Twilight is so desperate to avoid war and why he joined WISE(initially I thought that it was the result of living through a war at a young age, but now I think that it's also his way of paying back for his actions and beliefs before the war, he might have been a child but survivor's guilt can be crushing), also why he is so against the nationalist ideologies that make some ostanians wish for war and guide anya's classmates. He is against them, but he has never judged them, because he was the westalian version(more or less) of Damian and his friends, he understands what it means to be a child growing up like that(it's eerie I can promise that, as a child I went suddenly from a middle class child with a right leaning environment to the low class child of a young single mother and the differences are radical, I managed to escape the alt right trap but others were not as lucky. Especially now, we share a huge border with Ukraine and have helped from the beginning and a lot of people, even people my age, are swallowing russian propaganda or thinking that we treat the Ukrainians too well. I disagree with them on everything, but I can't find it in myself to hate them for it, because I know how they have been indoctrinated since diapers, how their environment was carefully curated so that they would not meet anyone that may offer a different perspective until it's too late).

in another idea, I find it interesting how, despite being violent against twilight and his mother and did not seem to be a great father or husband, twilight's father was right. and now twilight acts a lot like his father, but has learned from his mistakes, he is not violent towards yor or anya but insists just as much on her education(admittedly for different reasons) and is just as anti-war, if not more. I like how twilight has used his own father to create Loyd, took the things that he did right and made sure to not repeat his mistakes.
