probably something like harry potter where some people can use magic, and most cant, but to cast magic easily they need runestones (wands) but they are used up as they use magic

The entire tower seems rotten from the gate keeper to the students to the tower master, so instead of selling them stones to get close to one future star he should just recruit her and sell them nothing.

Plus, not many of the micro-organisms would survive a sudden flash freezing. Their cells would definitely rupture. Even cold resistant bacteria would need to gradually decrease the temperature in order to avoid the liquid in them expanding and destroying the cell walls.
