He seriously didn't try to understand his power one bit, he was shown to know how to do magic in the first town and after that he never bothered to consider and focus on controlling that part? That ball needed to remind him about his detection ability in a tight situation, even tho he again had 20+ days alone to figure out his shit before that. What the fuck did he even do all those days. If he's scared about his power impacting others, how about you try and understand it and control it better? He's an old man too, which you would expect to have some smarts and experience under his belt, not some 17 yo kid that thinks with his dick.
