    I always hate when people say characters are redeemed by doing one good thing. Redemption is a long journey, and many perish before the end.

        What values? He wasn't a villain, he was just delusional, mind deteriorated by the reality that surrounds. He was holding onto his only hope until he realized it was futile, so he decided someone else should live at least.

  My thoughts are that he's a "The end justifies the means" type of guy. He does anything he can to live and doesn't just throw people away without reason, yes he throws people away but he only does so when it helps the bigger group. He's not really a bad guy and I can't really hate him for what he did considering the hellish conditions that they lived in
