I think that's unfortunately just the tone of the story. I do understand what you're talking about because it can get exhausting at times seeing people die in a really brutal unfair ways, but that feeling is kind of what they want to paint. From the looks of it there is not a lot of structure in many parts of their society and the way that you are feeling right there reflects how many of the individuals living in this world feel. So if that is what the author was going for then honestly I can give them my respect for allowing me to immerse that far.
