I now skim them. This fucking manga literally made me break my principles. Me, of all people. A stubborn principle upholder.
YOU were the one butt-hurt enough to even start this.
Take your own advice.
An solid 8/10. I have issues with this manga, but for the most part, it does its job. Great art, hype sequences, good panelling. A fair chunk of the scanlations were pretty bad but what can you do when you're us, we read it for free. I do feel guilty about doing that, but I also want my family to not starve. Western prices for Anime/manga are absolutely insane. I calculated it a while back, and it's on average about 10x as expensive. It's ludicrous. I certainly support the industry by buying some merch though. Anyway enough about me.
This manga made me appreciate American football. Beforehand, even though The Longest yard (2005) was one of my favourite movies, I didn't know squat about the sport. Now I do, I've been checking out clips on YouTube, and I finally realise what all the hype is about. It certainly didn't get me into the sport, even though Slam Dunk and Hajime no Ippo are in my top 10 favourite manga (HNI #2), I don't exactly play basketball and do Boxing. Though they definitely made me more appreciative about the sports. This manga had a passion for the sport, like Hajime no Ippo or Slam dunk, but unlike Ashita no Joe. Any chance I could get to rag on that awful manga, I will. ANJ sucks, even though that manga has one of my fav moment in anime/manga history. But what can I say? That very specific moment was a diamond in the rough (it wasn't the ending).
I do think that the main character, Sena, is such a boring protagonist though. I found myself more invested in the side characters, like Monta. I think there could've been more drama, maybe some actual romance, it has all the same problems as Hajime no Ippo, even though I call that manga a masterpiece and it's my 2nd favourite of all time. But overall, it was a great read, for the most part... the ending sucked. Who won?! I guess that's not the point it was going for, but It was the culmination of the entire manga, I need closure! Same goes for the one-shot. What is it with manga endings?!!?!?
I am glad to have read another classic. That match against the Shinryuuji nagas is one of my favourite arcs in all of anime/manga history. Another great sports manga. Even though Ashita no Joe is one of the worst manga I have ever read, the majority of Sports anime/manga I have read absolutely SLAP!
I swear I see you everywhere. Though don't worry, I actually like this manga! It's an 8/10, that Shinryuji Naga match is one of my favourite moments in anime/manga history.
Brother, this is Eyeshield 21. It literally ended the same way in 333....
Since, it obviously effects you so much, of course.
Axed, I saw that coming.
I hate the armpit fetish. Makes me nauseas. The only reason I read this manga was because of the... uniqueness of its plot. But it was really disappointing. There was no resolution to most of the plot points with this ending either. But the story sucked anyway. I'm not a fan of onee-shota love stories, but you can't even call this a love story. It was nothing but erotica for the armpit fetishists out there. Super thin plot and characters.
Decent art and character designs though.
