The design of the yokai reminds me of the old hags you see related to Japanese mythology who pin a straw doll to a tree with a nail. They usually wear a headband that has candles.

Personally I saw it more of immigration as the issue snd how it ruins the quality of life for others when various come in such a large mass. The only difference between this and real life immigration is the immigrants we have in such numbers don't usually bring new innovation in advanced technology. Japan is in its right to be prejudiced towards foreigners, I don't blame them and the same goes for any homogeneous country in the 1st world.
