That makes sense if there was propaganda and control so the public would be brainwashed into this mindset.
The reason why he can be that strong despite his level being so low is the years of absorbing that god's power.
And I reckon that this was mixed with the teachings he got, and it's on his way to attain some form of divinity... but with the powers of the "enemy divinity". Which actually feels like a nice payoff we didn't know was possible.
The inciting incident of the story happens when two opposite sides clash. But while they both start at very opposite sides, one being too self-serving and the other too rigid, it's by their interaction that they start to understand themselves better, and in doing so, understanding the other person as well.
...or something like that, right?
I do like the dark horse as second ship tho, because the friend (Tomo) does go through something similar but from a different starting point.
It's more common to try to control such people.
It's odder as the whole town turned too quick into the whole "kill" thing. If this had happened after a while twould make more sense, right? But they should still be elated by having the demon lord threat destroyed... so I always thought twas too odd a setting.
And also, I'm glad there seems to be something going behind scenes... twas TOO weird that they killed the hero just like that, and it seems that there were someone pushing this outcome with quite the evil intentions.
