Considering her few snippets of sadistic looks, her use of poison, and the mc describing her as being like an assassin, but different. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she was prob a serial killer. That maid collapsing to something that looked like a sickness was prob to allude how she use to kill people.

We could have just taken the Bob Ross rout and called it a happy accident.

I think it has to do with the fact that he was never taught the basics. He was taught more advanced techniques without foundation and had to essentially push his body past its limits to force their completion. Which is evident in him pretty much destroying himself every time he fought seriously. He fights in a crude, self destructive way. So a traditional martial artist would think that is disgusting.
