I actually really like this. Here Sasae is staring into a distorted mirror of himself trying to right what's wrong, but he simply can't because of who he is and who he has become. He's understands the complete and utter selfloathing that he would feel and simply can't imagine being able to gain forgiveness or being allowed to move on. He feels he would be unworthy, He feels that he IS unworthy of either. Only for his sister to beat into him that she would hate to be the reason for his stagnation and that it is okay to move forward with your head held high even after loss. Sasae came to heal the tree spirit but ended up getting healed himself.

The whole "You don't deserve what you have, You don't know what its like to struggle, how dare you pity me!" shtcik is completely fair up until the point where you are pushing away people who are willing to feed you and your family without forcing you to actually debase yourself. This person has gone out of their way to help while also enlightening themselves about the difficulties of another's life. To decide you need to tell this person off and deny their grace to preserve some weird notion of pride, instead of say using this new connection to better your own and your family's lives, is really foolish.

This is fine though, as a vulnerable person, Eaden being skeptical and suspicious of unwarranted kindness and unknown people would keep him and his familty safe more often than not, and being pitied constantly doesn't feel great, and i can understand why a child wouldn't being able to contain their emotions even when the aid they are receiving is a great boon, if not outright necessary, but...
For Aisha to think "my former sister thought this way too, damn thats why i died" as if her having the gall to be kind to her new younger sister in any way, shape, or form lends any justification for her framing and execution is kinda aggravating.
