That depends on a variety of factors. If you consider ancient as just the tree rings then the oldest on earth would be about 5000 years old. Giant trees like redwoods would likely have more strength purely from mass as well. If you consider age to include the clone colonies of Aspen trees then you're looking at 80000+ years for Pando on earth alone. Even if you consider the age of the trunk alone then you could still open up interesting possibilities with things like an undying legion of Aspen trees shooting up from a common root system. Sadly, I doubt this author will actually do anything particularly interesting with the trees that exist on earth and will rather choose to jump to magic trees to give the ability importance.

One factor to consider is the compatibility of martial arts. This "lesser" one will actually stack quite well with the Fist King's martial art which may make him more powerful overall, since the other is going to be more orthodox Tang Clan, not about using the body to fight. Another factor would be its compatibility with him. His goals and personality fit more with this one where you bond with the beasts and can even communicate with them. I think it's likely that he'll first master this one before adapting the other one along this path so he can get the benefits of both eventually and communicate with more spirit beasts.

Considering the way they throw out newbies, babying doesn't seem like the Barbarian way. Aside from that there may be more to it that makes the boost worthwhile beyond just passing on an essence. The people strong enough to gift an essence would have to be capable of farming at least 5th rank essences since the container is so expensive it doesn't make sense to use it for anything less. Some of them would have lucky encounters they couldn't reproduce like rift lords, rare encounters, or getting an essence obtained with the help of a clan like Bjorn's orc hero essence. They're the ones most likely to choose this ceremony. I think he'll pass down a truly rare essence.

It's not that easy. You'd have to build up your strength and defeat certain monsters repeatedly, risking your life the whole time. There's also a factor of luck like getting a rift essence with multiple active skills. The best essences are the kinds that would be difficult if not impossible to guarantee you could get them again.

It's a pretty wild jump to think that any one of them could have taken part in creating the system. It's much more likely the familiar aura is his qi. FOFS is Wen Tingyun's technique and TAOM incorporates 6 desires and demonic bliss technique.

If he gets a higher rank vampire essence he can have the immortality back. The overall stat boosts could make up for lacking the buff skill offering imprint as well. I think a rank 3 or higher vampire essence wouldn't be a bad option since the immortality seems incredibly useful for his build but maybe he'll get something similar through another essence or focus on something else.
