'aight... I left it simmer at chapter 92 two years ago. Now that's completed, I'll binge read the shit out of it.

Nah! Almost 99% of the times, the manga will be better than the anime adaptation. This one falls within that 99%... it is by no means a hidden jewel but it was entertaining up to the point where you catch up and have to wait for a month for the next chapter. I caught up witht the release last year and, honestly, forgot to keep reading because of that one month release waiting.

Oh! but they doo enforce this kind of behavior with their wallets. Take how the Chainsaw-man anime performed in Japan. Wordwide, it was an utter success. Locally, it was a scandal and almost flopped economically. Reason being, Denji's motivations aren't the usual Japanese standard of trying to live a "plentiful youthful life". Denji's motivations are simpler and more primitive, he just want to have good food and to touch boobs. Stupid as it sounds, that was enough for the francise to almost be canceled in Japan. It wasn't until they realized Chainsaw-man was a success outside of localization. Anyway, that is one but many other examples of stories where the average Japanese (as a cultural being, not as an individual) show how their societal values rejects a story that attempt to speak or show -even in a fictional way- there is another way of thinking against the status quo.

I can't stand stories where the MC is a dense moderfucker, yet again, can't deny some stories are effing good/funny to read... Aijou Rentarou is my peak MC role model... god, I need to pick up that manga again... so much to read and we only have 24h in a single day

Now that the psychological and societal background has been set, we have an idea on why they behave like they do in their media, specifically in light novels, manga and anime: If you have a girlfriend, you are different. If you're different, you'll be ostracized... and the Pablov's dog training kicks in. Even if you want a girlfriend, being afraid of ostracization by society is more important than being happy.

This is also applicable to their work culture as well. Working in a blue-collar company, even if you have completed all your tasks, you cannot leave the office until all of your co-workers have finished their tasks as well... you got stuck at your office 2hours after your shift ended? Too bad. Can't leave unless you and all of your coworkers leave at the same time. Remember, all Japanese must be equals. No one can be recognizable from the crowd... there's a reason why every main character in anime and manga has extravagant hair colors and flamboyant clothes (I see you, Hirohiko Araki... I see you), but I digress.

You know how a man draws more attention than having a girlfriend? An extremely beautiful and gorgeous girlfriend.

If a man draws too much attention, it means he is no longer equal to everybody else; thus, society will judge him and ostracize him. All that I've described is what I believe, the reason why there are so many dense mothafuckas as MC in anime and manga. Not because they are indeed so dense, but because that is what society expects of them... and this reinforces the isolationism that is killing the future of Japan. People are afraid of getting into relationships, which leads to fewer marriages. Fewer marriages lead to fewer babies. And fewer babies leads to a population that is growing old and not being replaced. Effectively killing the future of their society.

... and this is why I believe that Japan is locked in a self-destructive harmonics, they reinforce the behavior that is killing them by means of tradition.

TL:DR
Japanese society doesn't like anyone who is different than the average. Getting a girlfriend is being out of the average. Thus, having a girlfriend is bad.

Ps:
Again, sorry for all the BS but that is what I believe and the reason I cannot withstand an asexual dense motherfucker as an MC. There are exceptions, of course, but that is a totally different topic and I've written enough BS, imo.

True that as well. Haven't read any paper or article addressing that in specific... butt, and this is my personal take on the topic, so feel free to roast me or debate it, I believe that is the social Japanese stigmata damaging their own works in a self-destructive harmonics.

Let me explain myself -this may be long, so sorry for that beforehand.

These are facts well known that shaped the Japanese society for the last thousand years+; given the geological location of Japan, typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, and the extreme difference between weather conditions of the seasons all year long, all of this formed a society that forced the individual to rely on each other more than the average cultural societies of the world. This need for reliance between each other for survival reinforced one characteristic that all humans have: The need to gravitate around people with characteristics they share. These characteristics were not only ethnical but also of character, religious beliefs, moral principles, etc. All those factors contributed to creating a culture that is inherently secluded and very cherry-picky on which outsiders they allow within their closed society. Add to that a feudal Japan that was forged on the ideals of Buddhism that bled into the local religion of Shintoism, and we get the general idea of a religion that seeks the ascension of the flesh to godhood by means of following a certain way of living. The Bushido teachings and the Samurai clans came to strengthen these ideals and chastise anyone who behaved outside these societal norms. As it was common in all of mankind's history during the feudal period, the average folk in Feudal Japan was protected by the Samurai and their lords; and taking into consideration the already homogeneous way of thinking/living of the feudal Japanese society, the core Japanese character was forged:

Behave like everybody else, and you'll survive.
Behave differently, and you'll be ostracized.
Being ostracized equals death.

Because of their isolationism, Imperial Japan believed they were one of the biggest and strongest societies of the world, and this was translated on how they behaved during WW2. Add to all of that self-centered ego the usage of the first and second nuclear warheads to end a war, Japan was not only spiritually broken but utterly humiliated. When USA installed millitary bases in Japan, that kicked the old Japanese survival instinct.. behave like everybody else.

Same story, but the anime got watered down, and no, I'm not joking. VN was way harder than what we saw in the anime adaptation of School Days.

I see she might very well pull a Gasai Yuno move on Masato, dry humping on him while he's tied to a chair and both of them are in their undies.

I know, right? I haven't felt this in a manga since DomeKano. Still too early, but we'll see... if it keeps like this for the next 50+ chapters, this manga will definitely have an anime adaptation!
