a more logical reason the author couldve taken is: the bandits celebrate their capture and is about to leave > the mc tells them to leave quickly (bc he doesnt want to disturb the kid) > bandits gets annoyed by his rudeness to the ones who “saved” him > fight and mc wins > the captive overlooks the mcs misdemeanors on the count that he saved his ass

this wouldnt change the direction of the story at all but it allows the mc to stay true to the personality he has shown so far
