tbh i think that even genetics have some randomness to them. we cannot control the specific genes that are combined, which genes mutate into a specific gene, and neither could our ancestors. we and our ancestors just are the ones to luck out to have a set of genes good enough to survive inside an extremely volatile environment millions of years ago and avoided any major changes to our environment that we cannot control eg. a huge meteor crashes on to it
i dont live in the west so cant comment on that but yea it does look pretty rough over there
