Slowly the past is being revealed in flashbacks, but the girl who originally broke his heart because she tried dating someone else to gain experience because she was too nervous to go out with him directly got hardcore bashed in an online post claiming she was asking out (and presumably sleeping with) ever guy she could find. The MCy wrote a fake anonymous post claiming that the bashing post was a bunch of lies he made up to slander her since he was rejected. That way he'll be villainized instead of her. And now we're about to hear about the actual past.

Would be happier for sure. Sometimes in these stories the Ex-gf is basically a monster and it's like "I don't want them to reconcile" but in this story everyone is just young and awkward and regretful that they hurt people they care about which is the perfect set up for redemption and reconciliation.

Don't get me wrong it's definitely a better story for him to be reconciling with his past and delving into how easily it can be to accidentally hurt others, as well as yourself. And the cast still interacting with him is what drives the story.
But still if he never saw the two girls in highschool perhaps he would move on since he has his new ikemen bestie and the college basketball friends.
It wouldn't be the same type of closure as he'll get from the current story, but I think in life sometimes we get hurt and then we learn that we can move past it.
Of course the reconciling with his family might not happen if he doesn't reconcile with his friends first, or maybe it will be delayed by him focusing more on the girls than his Mom and Sister. Of course this is just a story, but life is like that where you never really know how things could be different if just one small thing was different.

Honestly it feels more like being surrounded by reminders makes it harder for him to move on, rather than easier.

Bruh the only thing you know about him is that he can go absolutely wild if provoked and so you're going to attack someone close to him???? What kinda logic...

I enjoy this one because they didn't infantilize her too much. She's naive sometimes but has her own thoughts and logic and knows not everything is peaches and cream. Sometimes children in manga are overly cutified and don't resemble actual humans.
