I think it actually was pretty fast paced on this chapter compared to others in the past. he saved her, killed the guards, escaped safely with her and talks to her family. Usually it would end with a cliffhanger as they get stopped by a skilled guard or something and it gets dragged on longer.

I think he rejects it because he feels as he doesn't fit in, the closest thing to a family to him was the numbers and I think here he already splits up with them
