Better that way, honestly. I think them all loving each other equally rather than them all just loving Rentarou makes the whole thing work. Feels like a proper and soul binding love that they share as a collective romantic relationship. Also just leaves for the author to have way more to do story/plot wise and just better interactability between all the girlfriends.

I genuinely do think it would suck if they do end up having to strictly stay with one or another. Tends to be the route that most stories in the GB genre tend to take. I do hope, not just for more interesting story direction sake, but for the characters themselves, that they will not be forced to choose and that they can end up both keeping their TSS.

Though in more recent times, the term has been also used as a (sometimes) non insult and more so lewd term, referring to someone who is "short" in size and "stacked" in certain areas of the body like breasts/hips/thighs/rear end/etc. I believe that both meanings can easily apply here.
