it works with all tiers, like i started reading blue lock before it was animated but couldn't really watch season 1 and now season 2 being the shitshow it is I'm glad, I read the novel for TBATE so when it came back from hiatus I wasn't super excited because I know what happens and it just didn't draw me in the same way. the only exception is anything murim or cultivation based, I hate the 3d animation style of chinese anime and the i cant remember any names in those stories so no way am I reading the LN

one thing i think everyone needs to appreciate is how amazing the art is with how little color is used. like the entire world apart from the people and closely associated things like weapons or the carriage are black and white, and even with the people the clothing for all the clans is mostly grayscale.

About his cultivation methods its just that, a cultivation method, and him leaving innocent people doesn't make him evil as those people are complete strangers to him and his focus is to regain his strength for revenge. now don't get me wrong MC is probably very demonic I mean the cultivation speaks for itself, but I don't think that defines him as evil considering the person he sucked the essence out of was already dead

he calls it a demon heart bc its a common thing in cultivation stories. its usually referred to as a heart demon, the changing of words can make someone think its something different so its important to note, but its basically a sort of mental or physical barrier that prevents someones training from advancing. typically its some form of regret in their past or some sort of immense worry. simply put its a subconscious barrier preventing someone from "ranking" up.

you also talk about MC as if we know ANYTHING about his life as the demon emperor aside from the fact that he was one of the 8 strongest and raised a disciple from infancy. just because he was a demonic cultivator it doesn't make him evil we've seen that in a lot of different murim stories like nano machine or chronicles of the heavenly demon
