Why? Where's the respect for flashbacks?
If the defense is "it's how it went in the novel" then shut up because that's a 0/10 garbage excuse. The novel probably ended the chapter with a cliffhanger -> started a new chapter with a hook (namely, Mr. Main Character being a goblin) -> and then flashed back halfway through the chapter to answer the cliffhanger. When doing an adaptation AND you're not ending the chapter with the novel, then you should foresee this problem happening and avoid this problem.
Ya know what's funny? I have the novel fully unlocked at wuxiaworld but I just haven't bothered reading it. I could but I just don't feel like it. /shrug
