Here some list why using a glove while mountain climbing:

1. Cold. As you can probably guess, the temperature on mountain terrain can be a lot colder especially without any sun light. Lot of recreational mountain climber tend to climb at dawn so they can watch the sunrise at top of the mountain.

2. Protection. Lot of the rock/plants can damage your skin and wound will make it harder climbing mountain. This will allow you to hold a thorny branch or rough rock without much of a problem.
