    So it's not that the Takaidzu village was oppressed by the Fujiyoshi village but the opposite. When the Takaidzu tried to kill all of the Fujiyoshi during a famine, the Fujiyoshi fought back and a bunch of Takaidzu were killed. After sacrificing all of the people in Fujiyoshi (this time for real), the people of Takaidzu changed the story so that they were the ones who were oppressed but managed to kill the oppressors.
    That is my take on this story

            In the past were two villages: Takaidzu (masters) and Fujiyoshi (slaves).
            The people (spirits) of Takaidzu wants the bodies of Fujiyoshi citizens in order to resurrect.
            This gray work was an offering to stop sacrificing Fujiyoshi people. Since our heroes are not from that village nothing happen.

            "Honest people are gullible" --> I don't know about that, maybe I misinterpreted who was the master and who was the slave.

              Or maybe that "gullible" line is exactly the point. It's impossible to tell who was the victim. Both say they were the victim.
