Yeah but going by the way he talks and the things he references this life and in later life's it becomes very clear that his memory didn't get overwritten, he just had both stacks of memory the only part that does seem to get overridden is his ex-girlfriend that he still loves kind of fuses with whatever version of the love interest he gets in whatever life he has in his mind, but as far as behavior goes he immediately goes full native he doesn't set goals for himself doesn't seem concerned about the fact that he's in the game he just rolls with it and he only starts showing concern once things go badly for him a couple times. (And even when that does happen there's no nuance or gradual change to it he just goes from "what it was still a game?!" to a screaming sobbing mess and the emotion never feels earned because they keep skipping most of the life he's living) Like maybe the author's going for something different but it is not delivered clearly if that is the case.(Skipping literally all the downtime he has any given life isn't helping cuz it doesn't let me know how he operates day to day) like especially for a series that's going for this more dark tone acknowledging and grappling with the fact that he is essentially living in a homunculus molded after another person would be an interesting thing to discuss but he just rolls with it basically every time, he puts in lip service about not rolling with it and then rolls with it anyways and the author keeps skipping the time that would show him actually having that decision in change of heart so it just feels like he has no aim. But if I remember right I bailed at chapter 12 if it gets better at some point after that feel free to call me out on this.
