After last chapter where Onsensei's words of wisdom were faked to be Kiara's I thought Kotaro would stop using them but it turns out he really respects the buff guy still. Arguing with the imaginary version in his head was hilarious.

User-1887759992 The issue with the elbows is that it generally leaves for too much exposed on the torso and exposes the under arm as well as ribs. Maybe it’s because my training was initially all practical before branching out, but presuming a mistake, you’ll leave tour vitals wide open (though that can be said about a lot of different movements). Surrendering my reach, movement options, and chance at acquiring a improvised weapon also make me squeamish (as does the generation of power that close for a follow up). I think my fight brain would resist using such a blow especially because of the bats, helmets (and potentially crushing an elbow and the likely fatal loss of the use of an arm).

The amateurs involved here (who are dangerous in that they don’t know their limits and tend to respond recklessly/desperately) are also concerning. Taking a follow up to the ribs from a bat strike would likely mean that’s all she wrote at my level. However, I’m no number one, and as far as I’m concerned in such a situation all that matters is winning. If I’m forced to fight , especially outmanned all I care about is that I’m left standing and my opponents aren’t.

Finally I guess I also don’t love the surrendering my reach, (thiugh going close distance against a momentum based weapon, hobbling nan opponent then following up with a lock to use them as a shield does appeal to me). However, in the limited situations I’ve been in remotely resembling this one I was happy to just walk away. Had they been even better armed I imagine that would have been it.

Still there’s no question about the efficacy of a well delivered elbow strike, especially from an expert in muay thai or perhaps pencak silat. I’ve personally had my face rearranged by one. It wasn’t pleasant. Maybe your comment comes from being a far more proficient expert than myself. Body type and training are also bound to be a factor. A crisis like this one is no time to be trying new things or showing off (and an elbow strike would be far too flashy for me).

You also certainly have a point about fists and palms. I’ve suffered more than a few broken fingers, though even given my preference for palms I’ve been fortunate enough not to suffer a broken wrist. Still the risk is huge, let alone trying something like a knife hand. There are far too many fragile little bones in the hands. Still faced with such a situation I hardly expect to leave unharmed.

Well if I’ve learned anything from such experiences it was greater caution and better risk assessment. Best to leave this stuff to the pros. These days aside from the occasional training session, I’m much happier leaving such matters to them and fighting it out in board rooms. Still, there’s no denying that even seeing this gets my blood pumping a bit.

Anyway thanks for the comment, and sorry for the long response. It brought back a lot of memories, especially the broken fingers.
