    one's using cheap tricks prepared in advance with the unfair knowledge of a battle happening, the other's holding back, this was supposed to be a match to decide who can better protect the calculi so them having prior knowledge and preparation alone invalidates the whole purpose since if inari decides to strike she won't let them know in advance.

  It meant that they would not have traps, abusing the knowledge of the terrain.

    sure but his knowledge of his opponents is an unfair advantage that he wouldn't have in actual combat since one side prepared in advance while the other was informed at the last moment.

      Well, "human knowledge" is the way to balance the fact that kemono are basically walking weapons... the same way we fight bears with tools.

        this is supposed to decide who can better defend the calculi from inari... highly doubt any tricks would do anything to her and doubt they could take her by surprise like they did with kon while she was holding back.

The correct response to someone pointing out the evil Toby - aka those intrusive thoughts -> is to acknowledge that "Yeah. Obviously. What do you think I am? Some saint?" Everyone has those intrusive thoughts and denying you have them is literally letting the intrusive thoughts win -> so acknowledge them.

Then proceed to dismantle the argument that those intrusive thoughts define you. We are defined by the decisions we make and the decisions we do not make. Yes, he wanted to tie her up, put her in a cage to be alone and happy with her forever - but those are his intrusive thoughts and they do not define him.
What defines him is the fact that he is unwilling to even touch her without her consent. He asked her for permission to kiss despite the fact that they were practically married at that point. He does not force himself on her - even when it comes to curing his illness -> "pain and panic due to an emergency" would work to validate his actions, but he never takes them. He'd rather suffer than do that -> to the point that she, herself, went to his room to help him -> AND she herself is the one going to his room at night to be with him generally speaking too.

So yeah, I think this is a dumb development and he should've been able to exit the illusion with his head held up high.
