my guess is he bet 1 mullion to keep mc fighting, no bet the fight might be stopped somehow. That's why it was implied he the one prevented intervention of mc's final fight . As for why he want mc to fight, is to destroy him, to be precise to destroy any student from Dream Academy, that's why Dream Academy has no student, all were by chased out by whoever this is which i would guess related to Sword Saint, might be her relative that don't want her to succeed or the Sword Saint himself want her to stop being educator.

My guess: the MC's growth during the match was beyond what should have been possible. In a fair competition, he expected the MC to win. But against sword aura, the MC should have lost.

Number1hitmanThe death devil has been faking to be Fami the famine devil and puppeteering things. The real Fami arrived on earth and fake chainsaw man attacked her, thinking she was the death devil. Before Fami could reveal the truth, the death devil interrupts them and revealed herself. Fami, annoyed, told her to kill herself if she still cared about humanity to stop the prophecy. Death revealed that she already tried and even if she could, it would be bad if the next death devil wasn't as fond of humanity, so she needs the real chainsaw man to eat her in order completely erase herself. She then comes up with an idea that's possible with the help of Fami and fakesaw man, but first she eats and kills them so that she control them. I'm not entirely sure what her plan is yet, but I think it involves spreading fear about chainsaw man and the war devil so that they're strong enough to kill her when her powers go out of control on the day of prophecy.
