The story begins in the distant future in the far reaches of the galaxy. The Human Galactic Alliance has been constantly fighting for its survival against a grotesque race of beings called "Hidiaazu." During an intense battle, the young lieutenant Ledo and his humanoid mobile weapon Chamber are swallowed up into a distortion of time and space.
Waking from his artificially induced hibernation, Ledo realizes that he has arrived on Earth, the planet on the lost frontier. On this planet that was completely flooded by the seas, people live in fleets of giant ships, salvaging relics from the seas' depths in order to survive. Ledo arrives on one of the fleets called Gargantia. With no knowledge of the planet's history or culture, he is forced to live alongside Amy, a 15-year-old girl who serves as a messenger aboard the Gargantia fleet. To Ledo, who has lived a life where he knows nothing but fighting, these days of peace continue to surprise him.

Hito Natsu no Kids Game (ひと夏のKIDSゲーム Hito Natsu no KIDS Gēmu) is a short, debut manga work by Ken Akamatsu, the creator of Love Hina. The manga was published on September issue of Kodansha’s Magazine Fresh on September 10, 1993. After he died, he became a ghost, a soul, but Koremitsu Akagi can see him. Koremitsu though, isn’t really like Hikaru. His red hair and his evil-looking eyes make him look as a delinquent, even though he is very kind inside. Hikaru asks him a favour: he wants to fulfill a promise, which he couldn't fulfill anymore. The promise was to give his girlfriend and fiancée, Aoi Saotome, seven gifts for her seventeenth birthday. Koremitsu accepts, and has to work hard to help fulfill Hikaru’s promise with Aoi.

Ishikawa Ginji hates anything related to ghosts, superstition and the occult with a passion. His "occult phobia" is so intense that he does not hesitate to reject any girl who appears to have even the slightest interest in the subject.

One day, after a particularly intense reaction to a haunted house lands him with a 600,000 yen debt, he is suddenly kissed by an elementary school student named Ageha, who then explains that she will use him to "wipe out every ghost in the world". While the sex appeal of the kiss is not enough to turn Ginji to her side, the fact that she "bought" him by paying off his debt in one go seems to work just fine.

In the casual days of the spring of his third year in middle school, Mitsuru Hibino meets transfer student Kouzou Issha, who develops his special power. Issha commands Hibino to use his lethal “power” to “correct the errors of this world”.
